EDITOR'S JOURNAL: Holiday issue!

What do granny smith apples, Marilyn Monroe's lipstick de choix and a raging fire have in common? The color red, my personal favorite color. Red is the color of passion, energy and enthusiasm. Remember the expression: RED HOT? Red is also the color of Aids Awareness. Aids is a daunting illness which affects us all no matter where we were born, where we live or where we are going.
This season giving back is also red hot! Think about it! What better way to spend the holidays than by being with the ones you love all the while bringing joy to complete strangers.Having the ability to reach others is so simple and you can have it to. We will post many different gift options for you to choose from throughout the month of December in our Feel Good Shopping for the Holidays. A great example of holiday cheers is our Designer Watch focus this month. Kenneth Cole does more than design a very profitable line but uses his influence to raise awareness on the rampant disease. He brings awearness like only he could through his "wear a rubber" line which benefits amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS research.
Make this December doubly jolly by loving and giving. Stay tuned, we'll tell you how!
Love,
Kelie XO

Milly by Michelle Smith Fall 2010 video

No, listening to loud music for all these years did not take a toll on your hearing. At least not enough to make you completely deft. This video has unfortunately no sound due to copyright. But who cares about the tunes? We care about the threads.
Michelle Smith's last collection at Bryant Park, R.I.P ... Enjoy!

DESIGNER WATCH: Michelle Smith

Milly by Michelle Smith is synonymous with luxury, youth, and ultimately great style. Michelle Smith creates timeless pieces that are feminine, flirty, and downright sassy for her ever-expanding clientele. Milly is an iconic brand known for exquisite colors and prints, luxurious fabrics, and a great attention-to-detail.

After winning an art scholarship to study fashion illustration, she followed her dreams, moved to New York City and enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology. During her time there she worked as a sales associate for European luxury brand, Hermes. Upon graduation from FIT, she wrote to the President of Hermes requesting an internship at their Paris headquarters. Her request was granted, making Michelle Smith the first American Hermes employee sent to work in Paris by this legendary fashion house.

While in Paris she amassed some serious internships at design houses such as Christian Dior Haute Couture and Louis Vuitton, all while enrolled at the prestigious design school, ESMOD.

After three years of paying her dues, she returned to New York and launched her label. The collection is sold at the finest specialty and department stores worldwide, including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Harrods, and Takashimaya.

In Spring 2011, Milly by Michelle Smith will mark its 10th anniversary with several exciting new endeavors; the opening of Milly's flagship boutique on Madison Avenue, the debut of its handbag and fashion jewelry collections, and "Milly Minis", clothing for young Milly aspirants aged 2-7.

Mrs O in Harper's Bazaar

Our favorite lady in one of our favorite fashion magazines. What a treat! Coming up in the November issue of Harper's Bazaar is a feature story on none other than our First Lady of state and style. Here she is pictured with a group of young promising musicians for the "America's got talent" story. Mrs O also known for her "Let's move campaign" and her love for American art and culture, is hitting all the right fashion notes in a raspberry sheath dress by L'Wren Scott and bright blue heels. DESIGNER WATCH: Betsey Johnson!

Betsey Johnson is a fashion designer with stamina and a name that evokes smiles everywhere. Since the 1960s, she has been deemed the “party girl” and even helped set New York City on fire alongside Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol.

In 2002, after removing a saline implant, she noticed a lump and was later diagnosed with breast cancer. Soon after she under went a lumpectomy and radiation treatment, thankfully she has been cancer free ever since and has been using her presence in the fashion industry to raise awareness about the life threatening disease. Some of her personal endeavors include, but are not limited to being the honorary chairperson for the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Initiative. Johnson makes public appearances, participates in numerous fundraising events, and regularly creates one-of-a-kind items to be auctioned off to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness. This year a specially designed pair of gloves are available for sale on her website.

According to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, about 207,000 women and 2,000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Betsey Johnson beat breast cancer and now makes it her mission to help others to do so. Do yourself a favor this October as well as anyone you know who has a “rack” and put a wrap on breast cancer by checking for lumps. If you feel anything the least bit irregular, call your doctor and schedule an appointment today.

EDITOR'S JOURNAL: Welcome to the issue

Although fall marks the end of summer frolicking, it still holds a special place in so many hearts and for good reason. For FWAConistas mix-matching, layering and the outpouring of new and not-so-new trends with a twist are Autumn faves. Check out FWAC: Trend for all things HOT from our new contributor StyleStar!
Yes, warm apple cider and pumpkin pie are also nice little treats! But nothing warms the soul like fall threads for a cause. If pink is your favorite color as it is the favorite of one of our writer's (she is obsessed) you are in luck. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month designers such as Ralph Lauren are offering a ton of products in the hue. If you are not a big fan of the Pepto Bismol shade do not fret! We will feature other Feel Good Shopping items for you to join the fight. And for all the straight shooters out there who just want to throw money at the problem, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation will gladly take your donations!
Betsey Johnson is not all about fun and games especially this October! This fille de joie is hard at work for a good cause. Her inspiring survival story lands her our Designer Watch spot this month.
This October think pink!
