On January 12, 2010 Haiti was hit with a devastating earthquake which killed 300,000 in mere seconds. Many people were horrified and wanted to take action but just didn't know what to do. Maybe you were one of these people. I know I was. After a few days, one of Helen Keller's famous quotes came to life in the midst of the chaos:
"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do."
And the "God Save Haiti" campaign was born. As a designer, I knew I could get involved and use my talents to lend a helping hand. I started raising funds by selling these exclusive GSH t-shirts and they sold like hot cakes. Yummy!
The sale was so successful that I decided to find one organization to support and partner with to see Haiti fully restored and autonomous. I believe in C2C's vision and that is why we had the event last night. It took place in a cute space in midtown Manhattan and was hosted by two precious ladies: Bethani Mentor and Mia Bradford. They caught the vision at a previous event and could not help but get involved. There was food, drinks, music and beautiful people.
A lot was said last night but the message was clear: You can do something. Figure out what it is and do it!
The guests were challenged to think about their choices, outlook on life and the meaning of it all. In turn, I would like to challenge you to think outside the box and see your life as a burning flame. What will your legacy be? When it is all said and done, aside from piles of stuff, what will you leave behind?
Personally, I don't want to be consumed by society but want to start a fire that will burn for generations to come. #iAMaFIREstarter. You?
What? Eating an elephant!
How? One bite at a time!
Bon appetit!

As I was shopping on the Upper West Side with Beauty With A Conscience's new editor - look out for the best beauty advice in town ladies - I was reminded of how fortunate we are to live in America. Think about it! Millions of people live on less than $2 a day, that's not even enough for my morning latte or to get on the train, 30, 000 children died from the recent famine in Somalia and the number keeps on rising and it seems like a new natural disaster comes in to claim lives every other month. Think about it!
As I am shopping on the Upper West Side, I am reminded to count my blessings! Join me in making this a #ThankfulTuesday.
Love,
